2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Poor Feedback
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to address player expectations.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
The news follows a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire message from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Director of the team. After a period of conversations, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
His management and background in the PVP shooter field is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most recognizable series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all excited to keep observing the progress of the game in the weeks to ahead.
The President
